Writing Songs With My Uke...

Once a fella can play a few chords on the ukulele he can get right down to the business of writing songs. I've written two, so far- not really grand compositions, but a good way to practice simple chords without having to play "You Are My Sunshine" over and over...

Can't seem to get blogger to hold the chords over the proper words so it is 4/4 basically with the last notes of the chorus picked on the strings (a uke won't play that low!) and G played 2&4. I've got one more verse in me for this but it'll have to wait...

----Sip The Time You're Given----
C F C G (repeats)
Life they say is longer than your fading memory

You remember some of yesterday but half a century

has come and gone so quickly, you think it’s all not real

You hang on to your worthless stuff, where the sentiments reveal

A thing or two about you, the stuff you’ve focused on

The things that mattered most to you, the things you’ve relied on

You should…

CHORUS
C F C
Sip the time you’re given like the fine wine you’ve been
G
poured
C F C G
don’t strive for forgiveness or god forbid, get bored.
C F C
Treat people like they’re dying and your own life like a
G
bed
C Am C (strings)EDC
of sweet tangerines and roses and some buckshot full of
C(string)
lead…

Life they say is harder than the life you think you’ve led,

The roads are full of potholes and the bad deeds in your head

You make the best of everything, you do the best you can,

you stand up for the weak ones, shake your fist at the man,

You should…

CHORUS
C F C
Sip the time you’re given like the fine wine you’ve been
G
poured
C F C G
don’t strive for forgiveness or god forbid, get bored.
C F C
Treat people like they’re dying and your own life like a
G
bed
C Am C (uke strings)EDC
of sweet tangerines and roses and some buckshot full of
lead…

Rather hear you play it - but it's wise advice.

I haven't written anything.

My eldest plays the Uke, but he has the voice of a frog. You and I are around the same age, these words strike a chord (ouch) - love the sentiments!

When it's done, will there be a video? Hope so.
