Kerby Peaking...

I went, the other day, on a nice hike with some friends on a rather arduous but (obviously) doable climb up to one of our local mountain tops.

In a rare moment of foresight, the BLM folks preserved a portion of forests that somewhat resembles the forests of old.

A trail was added and a sign pounded into the ground. "Kerby Peak Trail".

The trailhead starts at about 2,800 feet and peaks out at 5,556 feet.

From up there, the expression "I can see for miles and miles" starts to sound like a hit by The Who.

Nothing "funny" happened all day, but we did get a nice view of my humble little valley on the way up and came across a nice little stand of Brewer's Spruce-- trees so rare in a land full of trees that when you come across them, you are apt to say "Look! Brewer's Spruce! Oh my!"

In one of the photos you can see the small "mountain" (if you're from Florida) that juts up right across the street from our house. On that little mountain are squiggly little tan lines that are actually narrow roads cut in by BLM years ago, so that the trees can all be counted and tagged and tallied.

This is where I've been riding my mountain bike on those days where I've just wanted a nice easy ride around my neighborhood...

Get a better perspective of those hills you ride on now. Look tough.

Were any of those Brewers spruce drooping?

Hey! How come you plastered a picture of that dog all over the internet? Doesn't he deserve smiley face anonymity too?

I think you'd have to be fit just to look out the window there. I'm afraid my neck would snap.

I'm jealous.

I knew fresh air and exercise wasn't good for you, just look what it's gone and done - well, I rest my case, hiking is best suited for dogs, and dogs alone..
