Cheerful Ventures...

I ran across a whole library of Grateful Dead Archives a few weeks back and have been replaying old shows I attended by searching out the date and the venue. We used to go to all the Oakland Coliseum shows, sitting in the VIP section with our silly laminate hanging around our necks so we could get backstage and eat free food and use the (relatively) clean and unused bathrooms...

The thing to remember about the Dead was that they were a live dance band. People dropped their fronts and shook their backs at a Dead show.

My favorite thing to do was to walk the perimeter of the Coliseum, out in the big hallways where people twirled and danced and sweat and twirled some more, skipping through these crowds like a man in a forests full of celebrating creatures.... (Damn, the Dead always brings out the psycho in people- part of their charm, methinks!)

Needless to say, finding these archives made me very happy...

I never got to one of their concerts even though I lived in SF for ten years before Jerry died. I kept meaning too, like a lot of things. Goes to show you shouldn't wait to experience life, doesn't it?

Gee Scott, in that last photo you look more and more like your dear old ma every day!

Ah live gig's, the older I get the less I see. Back in the day, living in London, young, free and single? Glazed smile..
