The "Other" Six Pack Belly As A Resolution...

Six months ago, I challenged my brother Steve to a bit of weight loss fun. I started walking everyday. I bought a bike. I expected weight to just melt off the way it used to, a few pounds a week, ten or so a month and I'd be lean and trim in no time.

Ha! So much for aging metabolisms...

I officially weigh exactly what I did six months ago, that is to say, about 35 pounds more than I should.

I suppose I could say I feel fit under the flab, and I have lost about ten pounds of fat and replaced it with muscle...

Yeah. I could say that.

And my blood pressure is back under the threshhold for "first stage hypertension" most of the time now...

But lets face it. If I look down without leaning forward, Charlie is hidden under a belly still--created by beer and once maintained by beer-- and I miss the old view.

These days, I can still rest the remote for the tv on the shelf that forms just below my sternum on a roll of fat--convenient, but not good, not good at all...

My belly button is stretched out and no longer collects lint buttons the way it used to-- which is heartbreaking, I miss the old lint buttons tumbling out when I showered...

The extra weight makes it hard to run and hurts my spine when I try--which is both disappointing and takes away a great joy, running down to the waterline at the beach and then running from the waves crashing in...

Sigh...

Anyway, to gather steam for a second wave of "incentivising" I proudly display the beer gut as of the last day of 2008. I took up the "six-pack abs in sixteen weeks" challenge and will post a picture of how I did. So I am hoping this is one of those "before" pictures and not just another fat belly on the internet...

Here's to "after" (when I can drink beer again)...

Time to put the belly away until the end of April...

Easy boy, easy!!

OH yeah... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
