The Start Of Something Good

This is what I do. A fresh pile of lumber, a poured foundation...

Let me at it.

Almost everything I have ever built has been in a beautiful spot. Somehow my inherited PDL (Pure Dumb Luck) has seen to it that I get great jobs with great people. This one started a few days ago. We had an old hippy house lifted up and hauled away, ala "Extreme Make Over Home Edition". This is about 2 miles from my house, up a one lane road covered in ripe blackberries. It means I can come home for lunch and have blackberries with my sammy...

The woman customer is wonderful. My fellow crew boys and girls are great. I get to sing all day and tell jokes and listen to stories and bang bang bang away at big pieces of wood. I won't feel like I am gonna break something being out here. I don't have to keep my elbows tucked in. I don't have to watch where my feet land. I can lumber around like a big bear and be totally happy...

I hope your work gives you this much pleasure...

I sincerely do...

Okay Scott, lemme get this straight- you find that mostly you are building homes in "beautiful spot[s]"... in Oregon! Yeah, and me not being a rocket scientist and all, I think I still see the connection. You lucky savage, YOU ARE IN OREGON! Ferchrissakes, I'd bet the landfills there rate better than some other states entirely. Still, envy or outright jealousy are ugly things- good on ya. You are fortunate indeed.

Yes, stucco. I am blessed with a wonderful savagry.

But before you get too worked up singing the Oregonian praises. just remember. ALl of these trees are good cover for some pretty crazy and devious folks. You see them at the supermarket, Keystone under both arms, and you think about perhaps not drinking so much of the water here, or getting too close to the ones who were born here.

You have been linked to, and I expect a click or two as payment for coattailing you to great fame.

Onanother ironic note, I was born in Aurora, Colo.

Seems my route to Oregon was a bit long and windy myself...

What a lucky devil you are to be working in such a beautiful place. My son-in-law does the same thing in the Lake Tahoe area. It's great until winter comes. Gifts for him are easy! Lots of thermal stuff.

Great writing, Scott!

Don't you worry - I actually had taken you off because I thought I was a little too annoying for you, and that's why you hadn't linked ME. Complete misunderstaning - it is being rectified immediately. Mea Culpa.

It's funny when you find a job that just suits you. one where all your efforts are entirely natural.

When i finished uni, I wondered home with an arts degree under my arm and no money along with no idea. i applied for every job available and ended up working on farms. Not for me. Redheads do not belong in the australian sun!!! Then I got a job in a supermarket. Bit skanky i thought, but in doors.

Turns out it wasn't skanky at all. I'm perfect for it. At a checkout you get to talk ALL day and not get in trouble. Okay being friendly means you attract the odd looney who thinks you really are interested in there genital piercings and wants to show you, but there just so much I love about it.

Now I work in the IT side of retail for my money, I find i miss being a check out chick.(Either way my father thinks its a terrible waste of a degree :-D)

Hi tisty, Shirley, Ammogirl!!

This board bangin' doesn't always get the reputation it deserves. The trick is to be good at it, fun to work with (for the client) and lucky. On the bluffs of beautiful beaches, tops of mountains and hills with great views... Lagoons in Mexico. Beaches in OZ. Overlooking the Bay in Auckland... Over looking SF bay from the marin side... In the redwoods...

Love it!!

tisty- I was a bagger for a little more than a summer out of high school. Good checkers can Yak a mile a minute, to be sure. Our new manager threw me on nightcrew 'cause I never smiled when I worked the front.

I visited Oregon. Once. haha... I just wasn't too excited about the daily rain and gloomy skies.. although I'm sure it's not like that ALL the time. (I was visiting Beaverton/Portland)

I'm a nurse, I love what I do... but things are changing, companies are changing, hospitals refer to patients as customers now and it's losing my interest.

jordan-you visited Portland. Different Animal. I haven't seen a gloomy sky in five months. 100 degrees quite often. We could use the rain, fire season is a scary time.

I have a thing for nurses, btw. Love them one and all...

Hi Scott,

Saudi Aurora, you say? You've certainly improved your scenery. I've no misgivings about the.. well.. Let's refer to the "Deliverance" folks as "gnarlies". Yes, beware the gnarlies, but then this applies everywhere. That is, unless you are Tisty, and are in a grocery store and a gnarly is bent on showing you their genitals. Never pass up an opportunity for a good laugh, I say.

Cheers,

S.

I peeped ya, babe.

Even though I'm not as interested in "bang bang banging" around as you are, I understand (and thouroughly appreciate) the incredible feeling of not having to watch your step or mind your manners. Glad your PDL has landed you something that gives you such pleasure.

Sorry to disappoint you Stucco, but I've passed one seeing a penis that wouldn't get through a metal detector but was to slow to stop the woman from showing me her new nipple piecring. At a checkout.

*Shudder* those saggy bbabys looked like they were in some serious pain!
