Religiousity Versus Woohoohoo...
Religion is such a fickle thing...
If you grew up a Muslim, you think the image of a man tacked to a two by four is odd. You think laws are dictated by "prophets" who have a direct connection to a master puppeteer.
If you grew up a Jew, you feel guilty about the two by four (a little bit) and you wonder why nobody really likes you. You don't really know why, but you know you are waiting for something.
If you grew up a Christian, you think you are the kinder, gentler version of all the other big Books and have a golden ticket that the others don't have. You think the "others" need to "catch up". You have had a reformation. Shouldn't they?
If you are of an Eastern bent, you think you are somewhere between a cockraoch and a God, and are just going through the motions in between. You think being a cockroach is cool, because it is a step in the right direction. You think being a God isn't cool, because it means you are at the end of the line...
I believe in the MYSTERY of everything. That means that I believe in the natural confusion that men and women get when contemplating the source of their existence. That means I believe in the understandable questions that arise when contemplating things like the soul, and the afterlife, and the choice between real butter and margarine...
I believe we are all at some stage and we have our parts.
I believe that Shakespeare died, before he could make us all interesting.
I believe that everything I know, I learned.
I believe in mirrors at rest stops.
I believe that Mohammed and Jesus and Buddha and Vishnu and Bob...
need to get their facts straight...

....and I believe that if our brain was simple enough for us to understand we would be to simple we couldn't. Ditto for eternity and the great beyond.
And I also believe what makes us the unique species we are is that we are the only creatures who laugh and ask question like 'why am I here' (every thing else seems to know)
I was born. I will die. In between I'm learning a whole bunch of stuff. I try to be good to everyone. If there is an afterlife that would be cool. If there is not, I sure as hell won't know. So, I just enjoy each and every day and try to drink in as much of the beauty around me that I possibly can. If there really is a God I think that pleases Him/Her. If I'm wrong I guess I'll just catch a lot of Hell.

Amen, brotha.
I, too, believe in mirrors at rest stops.
Growing up in Missouri, I'd never met any Mormons until I moved (it was legal to kill Mormons in Missouri until like sometime in the 1970's- believe it or not, so go figure there wouldn't be any), and when I heard about the special underwear part, I thought I'd herniate myself laughing. That's the sort of thing that Woody Allen would dream up. I have a few friends here that are Mormon and have confirmed this silly business, and they just shrug it off, but I can't stop giggling about it.
