Moe Missile Anus Gnus...

We've been having a nice Indian Summer lately so I've reopened the pool. Momma likes the fact that I've cranked up the pool heater to 80 degrees so she stays in longer and exercises more.

Ninety degree days and eighty degree water... It's like living in the tropics round here.

Except for the bears and rattlesnakes, of course. I am up to six recent bear sightings (they are down for the berries which are ripe now) and seven rattlesnake encounters. The last rattlesnake was trying to cross the road when I came hurtling by on my bicycle. I swerved to avoid running over the 30 inch wavy/moving stick and then went back to watch it watch me as it fled into the brush.

I remembered why I think snakes are so cool. This one turned to face me with the first six inches of his body while the remaining two feet slithered onward straight away from me. If I could do that I wouldn't need eyes in the back of my head.

All of the bear sighting have been bear behinds, which is the way I like to see bears. Fleeing black bears are not scary at all. It's the other kind that are scary, the quickly approaching, friendly ones who wish to pat you on yer back...

I was finishing up some painting in our kitchen and found my dead sister still in a box and badly burned. I was supposed to have scattered some of her ashes around here but never got around to it. I guess it is just a reminder that I have never been too enamored with ritual of any kind. I find it all kind of silly and "put on", like we're all just playing at being instead of truly being...

I have goofy stuff that once belonged to my sister scattered around here to remind me what I had and what I lost.

A small white box full of unrecognizable ashes dumped ceremoniously just seems silly in comparison...

My brother Steve and his family are moving to Paris for a few years. His wife works for a French multinational bank and they want her in Paris for banking stuff...

They sent me this video of the apartment they might rent (they're over there now, looking for a place to live).

Did I mention I've seen bears?

Yes, you did mention the bears and did I mention I'm not visiting you.

I'm with you on the ash scattering ceremony. But if it helps people get over it, that's fine with me. It's the memories that matter.

Have you seen any bears?

Do you have grizzlies there? Those are the ones I REALLY don't care to see. Unless they're clear across the valley on the other side of the mountain.

I'm the only grizzly round these parts...
