Doh!! A Deer, A Female Deer...

I was down at the lake yesterday morning trying to get this shot. I had to stand on a fence post on one leg and use the fold-out LCD display feature on my powershot-but I got it- when all of a sudden I heard a huge splash and crash and splash and crash on the other side of a large bush from where I was.

I couldn't see what was causing the raucous but it was loud enough to knock me off my perch and by the time I got to a spot where I could see around the bush, this giant doe came splashing and crashing out and began swimming in the deeper water. Things were moving so fast that I couldn't get my camera focused and then I became fascinated by watching a deer swim (how far would it go?) that it took me a moment to think about WHAT IT WAS THAT SCARED THE DEER SO?

Just a big kitty cat, as it turned out. I heard it up on the hill growling its displeasure at the ingenious deer and the interloper standing on the edge of the lake with shaking knees...

"Here kitty kitty..."

Deer can be a bit skittish.

You didn't get a shot of the cat? For shame.

Isn't it too cold to swim?
