Hooting Shoops, Hematomas And Banana Pancakes--

Yesterday started out great with an hour long session down at the park by the lake shooting hoops. There was a couple smooching on a park bench with a lab/pit bull running around that my dogs got involved with happily.

For some reason almost everything I threw up went in the basket. Wee! "I'm good!" I thought, and they kept falling.

Mum was solid yesterday, scooting herself around on her walker, taking care of her own business, cursing out her nemesis John McCain while watching CNN...

I got on my bike in the afternoon and went for a fire road ride, three miles on the paved road, and then four miles up a long and gradually ascending fire road.

The ride home was mostly a coast, wee!

"Things aren't so bad," I thought. "My sister is in Las Vegas, gone to see Cheech and Chong on their "reunion" tour. Her health isn't great, but she is still out there doing stuff. My legs are sore and tired in a good way, like the old days where athletics ruled my spare moments. Mum is in the kitchen getting herself something to drink out of the fridge without her walker."

"Momma! Use your walker!"

Too late. She lost her balance and fell down on her butt, her back clipping the open door of the dishwasher.

It hurt but not too much. I got her up, and she swore and cussed the way an old lady who just fell might, and we looked at the spot where her back struck the door of the washer. Bruised, but no broken skin. I put her in bed with ice and thought we survived another fall with luck on our side.

In an hour, the bruise started to grow, and the pain was immense.

Mum swore her kidneys had been damaged, she could "feel" something very wrong on "the inside".

With Mum screaming and the ice not helping, I called 911 for the second time in six weeks and an ambulance came and they too, worried about an organ damage scenario.

The ER took a CT scan and there it was, a nice ball of blood about the size of a baseball, putting pressure on her tissues but not affecting her kidneys.

They drugged Mum up on morphine and then Oxycontin and I drove her home in the truck at 1:30 in the morning.

She slept till afternoon and I made her some banana pancakes to entice her out of bed.

"You look like you've been out club hopping again", I told her."Do you remember stripping off your clothes and giving the cute male nurse your phone number?"

Life goes on...

Bless your heart, Scott. You are so good to your Mum. I think all of us "old" ladies would love to have a son like you. I can really relate to her since we are pretty much the same age. I'm sure she knows how lucky she is to have you.

I hope the bruising clears up quickly and am glad it wasn't worse.

Cheech and Chong are doing a tour??
How cool is that!

Love your attitude, Scott...always.
Though I have to admit, when I first read your post I thought you'd written "Mom was sold yesterday" and I had to stop and reread quickly!
Sorry to hear about the latest bump in the road (no pun intended)...

You already know that I love how much you love your Mum. I also love that you aren't ashamed to shout it from the rooftops.

You did good Scott. Again. xx
