Singing Along With Singing... Or Not...

I am a club foot when it comes to singing. A club foot with a cleft palate.

Yeah, I know... and the lyrics to songs just stick in my brain and swirl there.

Construction work is great because on a rooftop with air guns rapping and compressors running and a breeze blowing, I can sing and sing and sing. Being the big guy on the crew and out in the open air, nobody complains too vehemently, though I will hear some mumbles about "professional help".

I worked at a winery off and on once for quite a few years. There was a cellar rat there who couldn't sing either, saddled with the same affliction-- having the music in the mind, but not the transferable kind. Great tunes with great lyrics came out of his mouth-- just not the way he wanted them to.

When we found ourselves down there just the two of us, we would often sing our songs-- little blips of one song reminding us of another, and the day would pass. What we did not know, was that when all of the vents were open to facilitate the cooling of the wine barrels, our voices carried right up into the tasting room where quite often twenty or thirty people stood gamely around, swirling Cabernet under their noses and wondering just what the hell was that goddawful noise?

On another job, a man from an adjoining building came around and poked his head into an office I was dismantling. It wasn't the banging and hammering and sawing that his desk jockeys objected to, making it hard for them to work. It was, again, my singing coming through the shared ventilation system.

"We thought someone was torturing a cat..." he told me.

Sigh.

I bumped into this vid of a little sing along this morning. Not only am I jealous when people can spontaneously erupt into song, now I can't get the lyrics out of my head...

This time I got smart and I didn't check out the video. The last time I did that I had the song stuck in my heard for days! Ha! Fooled you this time!

I agree with k.c. Just keep on singing.

Well, the one song I am most often requested to sing is "Over The Hill And Far Away".

And Shirley, the idea of you having this particular song stuck in your head makes me giggle to no end...

Hi Jammie and Kayce!

I'm not totally awful at singing but what comes out isn't at all what I hear in my head anyway. My son can't sing but belts it out anyway.

I can't sing at all. Not at ALL.
I feel all the passion burning in my heart....it just doesn't translate to my vocal chords...
