When East Meets West
I live out in the country on a relatively quiet road surrounded by an organic vineyard on three sides and Douglas fir trees everywhere else. A familial vortex has sucked me in to be here and take care of my aging mother and her aging husband.
I have a few neighbors, and we do neighborly things like shoot the shit at my gate where mailboxes are gathered.
The internet has been a source of mental stimulation for me the last few years, as it is boundless and always there, ready to amaze and placate, challenge me and bore me to sleep.
I have learned to type with three fingers from BOTH hands using the internet, and for that, I suppose, I am grateful.
The day after tomorrow I am going on a date because of the internet. A woman of intrigue and silliness has caught my attention, and apparently, I have caught hers. Many a nights I would hear her riffling through my archives, reading stories of mine that I wrote last year. I wondered “who could that be?” and I set out to find out.
As these things go, attractions come from out of nowhere and friendships (and, well, slamma jamma-ships) suddenly become possibilities.
One minute, you are not thinking about impressing a member of the opposite sex, and the next minute, you are seeing how long you can hold your tummy in without your face going purple.
Thursday, a female blogger compatriot is flying out to spend six days with me.
Eek!
We are going to head to the coast and brave an incoming winter storm, and then, hopefully (if storm permits) drive up to Seattle and share beer and pretzels (or coffee and a Danish) with a few Seattle bloggers and bloggerettes.
Her identity is not a secret but it is more fun not to say.
Teehee.
Scotty’s got a date…

Sweet man, promise me that you will take care of my best girl. That you will treat her like the tiara wearing princess that she is. Because, I've a date with her on the 18th, and I need to hear wonderful tales of travel, giddiness, and all things good.
Please remind her to call me to let me know she has not been hacked to bits on the left coast, and I shall just put it out there that the full wrath of the sisterhood shall cause great suffering if this great woman hurts for even one second.
I say this out of love. Deeply loyal and devoted sister love. Have fun, kiddos.
What a wonderful way to start the New Year. Have fun!
Congratulations to you both! And what Liv said, us of the sisterhood aren't afraid to use our wrath. But we know you to be a gentleman. Make sure she gets plenty of west coast sea air. This is really starting out a wonderful year!
Make note that Meno does not drink coffee! (Though my guess is that you could talk her into a danish...)
It's a good thing...I was starting to think you were gay!
Just kiddin' - best of luck in the relationship.
Well, hallelujah!
What a wonderful way to start a new year. Have much fun!
The internet is a wonderful thing - have a good time. Hope we hear some good adventure stories out of this..
But i drink tea!
Looking forward to meeting you. I hope you have a blast together.
Don't forget to comb that hair Scott! Hope we all can hook up for breakfast~~~
Well, good for you. Have fun!
Woo hoo! How exciting!!!
I'm sure it didn't take much readin' to figure out that you're a catch :)
Have fun!
Heyya Scott, Sorry to report that Schmoopie and I will be off to Winthrop in the morning. How long will you be in town? If we miss you, I'll hope there's a next time. Travel safely- some of the passes are looking pretty sketchy for this week/weekend.
You crazy kids. *g*
so how was it?
The cliche that comes to mind is "You dawg, you!" Enjoy, and Happy New Year!
All the best! Something tells me there will be lots of laughter and good times to be had. Goodness knows you deserve to have some more fun.
Well...well...well...how'd it go????
