Goldmining On You-Tube---- The Nuggets In The Stream...
Some nights- especially with the writer's strike in full struck mode- I spend an hour or two before bed drinking a beer or two and riffling through You-Tube looking for old clips of nostalgic things.
I find the whole process profound in profound ways. It almost makes me think time travel is possible (blaming the beer for the lack of rational reasoning, here).
I can go back and relive parts of my past, or get an overview of someone else's past, or zoom in on a past I missed completely. The point being, You-Tube is way cool for bringing up old vignettes of human beings at their most humane; those moments where time is spent so wisely it aches inside us like too much chocolate. Humans being expressive beyond the ordinary. The ache and the pain and the gurgle of the human stream...
This is one of my favorite videos that demonstrates what I mean. A bunch of musicians, drunk and alive, on a train. Without You-Tube, I may have missed this. With You-Tube, I was there for a short time, way back when.
My challenge is this. What You-Tube clip takes you somewhere you are glad you went? Is there a You-Tube clip you saved that is profound just for you?

I saw this clip as part of a documentary on TV last year I think. I missed it the first time around too - same as a crapload of artists back then. I went back and checked out Procul Harem doing Whiter Shade of Pale - there are copies of them back in the day and more recent versions - all of which are fantastic.
I rarely go to YouTube unless I want to see a prticular song. I'm not sure I could spontaneously say one I was glad I'd looked up, although I usually enjoy the ones I do find That Procol Harem one is funny - they look so serious.
I love the Joplin/Garcia clip. That's pretty much the same thing my friends and I were doing in the 70's. Except none of us were famous.
