Second Opinions And Purple Bandanas

My sister went down to SF today to see "an expert" on her type of cancer. I haven't heard anything back yet, nor will I until she returns later tonight. While driving down the road on errands, I saw a woman walking her dog. Around her dog's neck was a purple bandana, which are being sold all around town to help raise funds for Sandy's treatment. On the bandana, are the words "Dogs For Sandy".

My sister has always had a "gift" with animals. It seems she has cracked the human code in recent years, and for this, I am so proud of her.

I went up to see Pops yesterday at my old home. I hadn't been there in a few years. Pops is suffering more from being "diagnosed" with an illness, than any illness. He now has Parkinson's, and it is affecting him some. But hell, for a 73 year old man, he still kicks some ass.

I told him straight up to not let the diagnosis become a self-fulfilling notion. He is depressed about his new disease, as well as news about my sister.

"You're too damn old to get depressed over shit like that," I told him. "Go out and grab some titty and pinch some ass and challenge your friends to games of raquetball, you old codger, you..."

I think Pops is far too proper for any of my suggestions, but I think he got what I was trying to say.

I smell like steer manure typing this. I put down new layers of shredded bark to shut down the weeds growing in my sister's front yard. I then went out and got some compost, and put her herb beds and flower beds in a state of plant-bliss by giving them a layer of green compost and water...

I can grow a wart on a mole in a hole if you ever need gardening advice...

Santa Rosa's freeways have been torn up for a couple of years now. They are redoing EVERYTHING. It makes my hometown ugly and dusty and a little bit weird.

If you like the burbs, this is still a pretty nice area of the world to live.

The weather is some of the best I have ever come across. Anywhere.
ADDENDUM- Sandy returned from her doctor in good spirits. The prognosis is reasonable, considering the type of cancer. They are not going to remove the tumor, they are going to starve it of estrogen (by removing ovaries) and the doctor feels like Sandy could live many years with that condition in stasis.
"If it starts to grow, then we'll have to have another approach, but for now, we'll just starve the tumor and see how many years we can keep it under control."
This is all a far cry from what her insensitive and not very adept Kaiser doctot told her.

Continuing good thoughts beaming out to your sister.

Thistles. What do I do about thistles?

Eau de BullShit? I have a bottle on my dresser. I usually save it for special occasions like dates.

Nice that you treat yourself to everyday use.

(I want to kill ivy and various weed trees without resorting to Agent Orange.... but nothing else has worked. Maybe a flamethrower....)

Hmmm. Nancy and I are both asking how to kill things, when in fact, you said you are excellent at GROWING THINGS. What's wrong with us?

It's night now. Hope the news was encouraging.

Thistles?

If possible, get a lawn mower with a catch bag and run over the bastards. Then treat the stuff in the bag like it was toxic and place it in another bag (you want to send the seeds to hell) and dispose of it all in a landfill somewhere far far away.

Round Up brush killer it is for you Amusing. There really is no other way unless you want to get out a bulldozer.

CHeesy- That ol' guy is my Pops.

Round Up doesn't work.
Sad, but true.
Flamethrower it is.

Glad your sister got encouraging news. Scary, isn't it, how our outcome can so often depend upon whether we get someone clever or an ill-informed idiot?

Round Up BRUSH KILLER--

Applied properly... works fine.

We have a flamer thrower. It may or may not work, but the Mister sure loves to use it.

Great suggestion for your dad. I'll be sure to keep well away from him though.

Congrats to your sister. Maybe this news will help bring your dad out of his funk a bit.

Well no WONDER I was drawn to him!

I use Cross Bow myself...doesn't kill the grasses...just broadleafs

Give Sandy a huge hug for me... very good news!

I'm so happy Sandy went to see the docs in SF. I was hoping she'd either go there or to Stanford. Both places have great cancer centers. I'm no fan of Kaiser....never have been because I saw too much ineptness there. I've seen two people die because of late diagnosis or misdiagnosis. It sounds like she went to the right place and will have things taken care of so she can live many more years. I'm so happy to hear that.

I love the photo of Pops. I'm glad you shook him up a bit. There is no use feeling sorry for himself at this stage of the game. He can live pretty much symptom free for a very long time. He should just enjoy that time and worry about the problems when they appear.

You're a good guy, Scott. Besides having sexy lips!

Kudos to Sandy for not taking the crap info from her original doctor as gospel!

She seems to be such a fighter, and folks with that kick-ass attitude always come out on top!

Excellent new, Scott!

I had a friend who was suffering from cancer and had certain things said to him here by San Antonio doctors.

His parents took him to MD Anderson, and the doctors there told him he was 'this' close to death, and had he followed the advice of his SA doctors, he would have been dead in two weeks.

Scary stuff, when your life hangs in the hands of experts who know more than you.

I'm thinking great thoughts for you all. :)

Good news on your sister - of course, you'd ratehr get a cure but if they can hold her steady, the science conitnues to advance.
