Founding A New Religion In My Garage- Tinkering Still...

I asked y'all for your input while I invented a new religion and got some pretty good notions. I added my own notions and here is a basic list that I boiled it all down to. Here are eight founding tenets. I am not so assured that I think eight is enough (though it did make for a TV show, once), so feel free to add your 2 cents to this list. Notice, in my religion, there is nothing stated that isn' true. There are no commandments that involve lifelong torture, nor conflicting reports of historic events. There is nothing to kill or die for, here, folks. Just some basic precepts we can all follow easily.

1} Practice Humanity And Humility

2}Treat The Earth And Nature With Reverence

3}Eat, Drink, Be Merry, Dance.

4}Everything In Moderation, Even Moderation

5}Fill Your Life With Music And Art

6}Be Responsible With Your Sexual Organs- always consider the consequences of your actions.

7}Admire The Mystery Of Life- Before, During, And After Life…

8)Be Learned And Incredulous

AMENDMENT/Additions

A)Practice Good Hygiene

B) Maintain a place for quiet meditation and contemplation

Since most religions have instructional stories, I think we can fill the back pages of this new BOOK with stories of human events that illustrate why this new religion is important to follow. Here are a few that we can include, off the top of my head. Maybe you'll add some of your own?

The Spanish Inquisition.

The Crusades

The Holocaust

Stalin's Nightmare

Japanese Imperialism Of The Early Century, including Hirohito being worshipped as a deity.

The Mayan Rituals Of Sacrifice.

The European Settling And Genocide Over Indigenous Cultures. The hunting of little black men as "sport".

The Slave Trades

The Bombing Of Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

The Vietnam War

Darfur

Naziism

The Extinction Of The Dodo Bird

The Black Plague

The Discovery Of Electricity

The Discovery Of The Atom

The Discovery Of Germs

The Discovery Of Basic Physical Laws

The Discovery Of Celestial Orientation

The Discovery Of DNA

The Discovery Of Ancient Fossils and Subsequent Dating Techniques

The Discovery Of The Earth's Plates And Faults And Make-up

The Discovery Of Penicillin And Other Wonder drugs.

Etc...

For you see, history is rife with instructional stories that help guide us morally without having to resort to fictional tales that no longer make sense held up to what we now know...

I call this new religion "Planetary Beingness" for now (though I was tempted to call it Big Blue Ballness For One And Allness), awaiting some kind of divine guidance or drug-induced paranormal visionary revelation for a better one to come along...

Maybe you have a better one in your head?

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some praying to do...

Add the entire history of the Catholic Church to your list of reasons this new religion is necessary.

Here is one to add. Practice good hygiene.

I think all those tenets fit comfortably in my nontheistic religion. But since it is a commonsensical approach - live mindfully and lovingly, basically - I'm not sure the religion needs a name.

Am I allowed to curse in moderation and kill in moderation (just a few neighbors...), father Scott?

The only thing I would add, is make for yourself a sacred place, a place that is yours, and yours alone, where you can think and reflect, and get away from everything else. I got this from Joseph Campbell. Growing up, mine was a great big rock, overlooking the creek. I could sit there for hours, with my pony Bill, and we would dream great dreams together.

"Your sacred space is where you can find yourself again and again."

Joseph Campbell

The Power of Myth is an awesome read.

I think this should be on the list, maybe even somewhere close to the top.
“Death to intolerance.”

man, you've got to go back to Big Blue Ballness for one and Allness. That's too good.
