NanoWriMo Cross Your Heart Jock Strapping-- Who is looking for support?

Posted by Picasa

I bumped into this story yesterday and it made me pull out my 50,000 word "novel" and look at the first page and try to "line the words up right" and make it all sound publishable. Then I thought "maybe I sound a bit too pedantic here, a bit too "clever in a bad way" there", and I had to talk to myself for five whole minutes sorting these things out to my dissatisfaction.

Then I started thinking about all 80,000 NaNo WriMo participants and I wondered how many were-- just as I was-- coming back to the table to see what kind of mess they made? I wondered what kind of network existed to aid NanoWrimo extremists and to elevate their 50,000 words into something meaningful and readable and make-one-rich-and-famous--able?

I then wondered if I simply asked a simple question here, in my little tiny enclave of the enormity of it all, would I cast a big enough ripple to create a small movement?

"The NaNoWriMo Brassiere And Jock Strap Club?"

Prolly not...

But I will try anyway--

If you are a NanoWrimo'er who won or almost won or intended to win but had a bout of business to attend to, or you know someone who is/was, would it be so difficult to gather with like minded extremists and offer solace and wisdom, sharing critiques and encouragement, writing tips and peanut butter cookies? Would it be so hard to spread the word that NanoWrimo Freaks are gathering in a corner of cyberworld and all are invited to attend?

If you are in, leave me a response in this comment thread, and if you know of one who is writhing around in NaNoWrimo afterbirth pain who needs some love and encouragement, let them know that an experimental non-invasive support group is gathering a roll of ream, and all are welcome to assimilate into one big prolific and productive whine...

Because the finish line is really at the end, isn't it?

hmmm, interesting. I may just take you up on this Scott. did you see the thing on the NaNo page about lulu press (or something like that) that they will publish one copy of your NaNoNovel for FREE and send it to you, providing that you are a NaNoWinner (they ask for your sign in name to verify, etc) BUT!! you have to submit it to them (all formatted etc and decidedly funked with)by January 16th. I'd love to do this, but it's the formatting crap that scares me... so maybe we should look into this, I like this idea of yours!!

You could count me in. I have been taking a break from my mess of a novel for now but know that when I begin editing I'm going to be in headache city, so encouragement and helpful critique will be welcome.

Nikky, Maggie...

Feel free to use my email to further think this through. Also, feel free to invite all you know who undertook the challenge and may want to "next step" the affair...
