Puff The Magic Dragon

When I was a kid, Mum used to sing the song "Puff The Magic Dragon" to me, my brother and my sister. Mum would make that song sound like a true fairy tale. She could infuse magic in it. She could make the dragon come alive as if he were real.

Take a look at the sleeping dragon laying with his head in repose directly above me.

You don't have to smoke pot to see him. There he is. There is "Puff"

I'm not kidding. This is Hanalei. On Kauai.

Here are the lyrics to the song--

Posted by PicasaPUFF, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal PUFF, and brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff.
OH PUFF, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
PUFF, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout perched on PUFF's gigantic tail,
Noble kings and princes would bow whenever they came,
Pirate ships would lower their flag when PUFF roared out his name
OH, PUFF, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
PUFF, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And PUFF that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.
PUFF, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
PUFF, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
PUFF no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, PUFF could not be brave,
So PUFF that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave.
Oh! PUFF, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee,
PUFF, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee

Honah Lee?

Come on, people...

Hanalei.

I always loved that song. I'd never actually heard all the words before. Very cool!

You know, even with two kids in the house and that song on cd, I always just assumed it was Hanalei...

Did you go to the amazing muffin shop? Great brunch.
